Emotional Intelligence (E.I.)
EI enables us to:
- Recognise, understand and manage our own emotions and their impact on ourselves and others.
- Recognise, understand the influence the emotions of others.
- Use our feelings to guide our decisions.
A group of five skills enables the best leaders to maximise their own and their followers performance:
Self Awareness
Knowing one's strengths, weaknesses (vulnerabilities), drives, values and impact on others
Self Reflection
Controlling or redirecting disruptive impulses and moods
Motivation
Relishing achievement for its own sake
Empathy
Understanding other people's emotional makeup
Social Skill
Building rapport with others to move them in desired directions
We're each born with certain levels of EI skills. But we can strengthen these abilities through persistence, practice, and feedback from others.
The I.D.™ analysis is valuable in supporting all five skills described by Daniel Golemann.
